Offside is one of the rules that often sparks debate.

Core Rules

A player is in an offside position if he is closer to the opponent's goal line than the ball and the second last defender, when the ball is played by his teammate.

Not an Automatic Violation

Being in an offside position is only punished if a player takes an active part in the game, for example receiving the ball or disturbing an opponent.
